SPONSORSHIP RENEWED FOR LC SUPERSTARS

A big THANK YOU goes out to Wheeler Developments this week who have just confirmed the renewal of their sponsorship of our LC Superstars classes for a further 18months.

Their sponsorship is invaluable in helping us meet the costs of running our weekly multisport classes for children with additional and complex needs. It means we can offer the classes at a much reduced rate to parents, whilst also employing specialist staff in a suitable venue.

These classes really make a difference to all those children who come along and we cannot thank Wheeler Developments enough for their ongoing support.

ISLAND GAMES 2023

Guernsey is really proud to be hosting the Natwest International Island Games this summer! I know because I’m on the organising committee!!

The Games takes place right across the Island, starting with the Opening Ceremony in town on Saturday 8 July. This is a FREE event for the whole community to enjoy!

For the following 6 days, 14 different sports will be hotly contested by 24 Islands and all the events are FREE for you to go along to!

Because all the sports venues are in use, we are unable to hold our classes during the Games, which means you have an amazing opportunity to take your children out and about to enjoy some top notch sport, and inspire them to be the next generation of Island Games Athletes.

I’d love to know which sports you go to watch, and what you remember about them! So I’ve created a tick sheet for you to take along with you! Simply click this link to download and print the pdf and take it with you! Ask your grown up to take a photo of your tick sheet at the end of Games week and send it to me!

Get out there, enjoy the sport, embrace the atmosphere!

GO GUERNSEY!

BIG NEWS FOR LITTLE CHAMPS

I am delighted to finally be able to share that I have agreed a partnership with Beau Sejour which will see our multisport and Superstars classes run from the centre. It is hoped that our football sessions will also be moved across in due course.

The team at Beau Sejour is working hard to increase its provision of children’s activities over the course of this year. They have recently announced a new holiday club in partnership with Sportstarz, and they will be adding some exciting new children’s classes to their schedule as the year progresses.

This new partnership is a great opportunity for the Little Champs brand and will hopefully lead to further expansion. I personally feel it is really important for us to be seen within our local leisure centre. It means you will have a much warmer sports hall (!) and the cafe or pool which could work as an excellent after-class bribe!

Nothing will change with regards to the booking or payment process. I am still totally in charge of the business.

I look forward to sharing more news with you as we approach the switchover period in April!

Laurel

COVID PRECAUTIONS AS OF 1 JULY 2021

Ahead of the restriction-free travel which is coming in on 1 July I would like to respectfully ask all class members to follow the rules below. This is for the safety of everyone in class, as well as our wonderful coaches who need to stay fit and well (and out of isolation so that they can work). Thank you

To those eligible for restriction-free travel:

* if you travel off island, please stay away from classes for a period of 7 days from your return date.

* if you have guests arriving AND they are staying at your house, please stay away from classes for a period of 7 days from their arrival date

* if your child is identified as a contact of a positive case and is sent home from school/preschool as a result, please stay away from classes until they are accepted back into their educational setting

* please do not bring additional guests along to watch the classes. I appreciate that visiting grandparents, aunties, uncles etc may like to watch, but for the time being I would like to keep attendees to a minimum.

Our full Covid 19 Policy can be found on the Policies and Procedures page of this website.

SPONSORSHIP DEAL SECURES FUTURE FOR LITTLE SUPERSTARS

Wheeler Developments has stepped up to help secure Little Champs Superstars classes for the next 12 months.

The new multisport classes were launched in March this year for children with additional and complex needs. The initial pilot project was made possible by a grant from the Health Improvement Commission and, having proved to be a success, the new sponsorship deal with Wheeler Developments means that the LC Superstars project can continue to grow and develop.

The LC Superstars classes are the newest addition to the Little Champs business, which already delivers a range of weekly sports classes for toddlers aged 2-4yr. They are run as a non-profit arm of the business.

Laurel Le Tocq, Little Champs business owner, said: ‘The Superstars classes are really special to me, and setting them up has been a goal of mine for a while now. Finding the right coaches to lead the classes, and the funding to be able to cover all the costs, was essential before I could get the pilot scheme going. Luckily, I found both of those things at the beginning of this year! I am so grateful to the Health Improvement Commission for taking a leap of faith and giving us the initial grant for the pilot project. It means that I have now been able to prove how essential the classes are and it is amazing to know that we now have the backing of Wheeler Developments – a local, family, community-minded business - to take us through the next 12 months.

James Ridout, Director at Wheeler Developments said: “As soon as we heard of the opportunity to support Laurel in ensuring LC Superstars can continue, we wanted to be involved. As an established local company, Laurel’s efforts hit right with our core values and we could not be prouder to sponsor the Little Champs Superstars for the coming year. We have witnessed first-hand how brilliant the Little Champs classes can be for kids and we look forward to seeing more children benefit from them.’

The next block of classes is due to start on Saturday 5 June at Beau Sejour, 9am, for children aged 2- 10yr with additional and complex needs. Booking is essential as numbers are limited. Anyone interested in finding out more can contact Laurel on littlechampsgsy@outlook.com

 JANUARY 10, 2021

I am DELIGHTED to share the news that The Health Improvement Commission for Guernsey and Alderney has agreed to support Little Champs to launch a new multisport class for children with additional needs

The support from their Be Active programme means that we can pay for specialised coaches (I’ll introduce them to you soon!) and can pay for a fully accessible venue - the classes will be running at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre in their Healthy Lifestyle Centre which is designed specifically for this purpose.

I am so passionate about sport for all and for the rights of all children to have equal access to facilities and activities regardless of ability or disability. Guernsey has a long way to go but it is making good progress. I am so pleased that we can offer these classes, filling an identified gap in provision for this age group (under 10).

More information to come but it is our intention to have the first classes up and running by the end of this month!
